What are Emergency Allotment benefits?

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act authorized emergency SNAP benefits because of COVID-19. These are also called Extra food stamps.

EA benefits are part of the Pandemic Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also know as P-SNAP.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) approves requests from states for the extra food stamps benefits on a month-by-month basis.

The USDA approves the requests based on a public health emergency declaration by the Secretary of Health and Human Services under section 319 of the Public Health Service Act related to an outbreak of COVID-19 when a state has also issued an emergency or disaster declaration.

We will update this post each month to reflect the extra food stamps that was approved for the month.

Who qualifies for extra Michigan SNAP benefits?

Any household that is currently receiving SNAP benefits qualifies for extra food stamp Emergency Allotment (EA) benefits.

There is no extra paperwork to turn in to get the extra SNAP benefits.

It will simply be added to your EBT card, and you’ll be able to use it just like regular Michigan SNAP benefits.

In addition, any household that is approved for SNAP EBT in a month when EA benefits are issued, will also qualify to receive extra food stamp benefits.

How Much will you get in Extra Food Stamps Benefits?

According to the USDA, The extra food stamps you will receive are the difference between the SNAP household’s maximum benefit for the household size.

However, all households receive extra food stamps of at least $95.

Also, those households currently receiving $95 or more will continue to receive that
same amount. There will be no change in extra benefits for these households.

Additionally, those households receiving the maximum base SNAP benefit for their household size at the current temporary level of 115 percent will receive extra benefits of $95 per month.

Lastly, those households with a calculated extra food stamps benefit amount less than $95 will receive extra benefits totaling $95 per month.

The payments will be issued by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).

These EA benefits will be issued the day after the scheduled standard issuance date for the remaining staggered 20-day issuance period.

Michigan will pay the EA allocations for those cases that have already received their October FAP benefit from 10/23/21-11/1/21, staggered over this ten-day period.

A catch up file will be run at the end of the first week of November, to catch up on those cases that were approved after the initial EA issuance.

The Number of Michigan households that are eligible for benefits for October 2021 is 695,861.

The state will receive $119,695,413 in Extra food stamps emergency allotments for the month.

These EA benefits will be issued the day after the scheduled standard issuance date for the remaining staggered 20-day issuance period.

Michigan will pay the EA allocations for those cases that have already received their September FAP benefit from s 9/25/21-10/4/21, staggered over this ten-day period.

A catch-up file will be run at the end of the first week of October, to catch up on those cases that were approved after the initial EA issuance.

The Number of Michigan households that are eligible for benefits for September 2021 is 668,419.

The state will receive $112,721,735 in Extra food stamps emergency allotments for the month.

For August 2021, Michigan Extra Food Stamps Benefits will be paid on the schedule below:

These EA benefits will be issued the day after the scheduled standard issuance date for the remaining
staggered 20-day issuance period.

Michigan will pay the EA allocations for those cases that have already received their August FAP benefit from 8/07/21-8/16/21, staggered over this ten-day period.

A catch up file will be run at the end of the first week of September, to catch up on those cases that were approved after the initial EA issuance.

The Number of Michigan households that are eligible for benefits for August 2021 is 668,486.

The state will receive $113,486,698 in Extra food stamps emergency allotments for the month.

What Restaurants Accept EBT in Michigan?

"Michigan restaurant meals program"

The Food Stamps Restaurant Meals Program allows certain groups of SNAP recipients to buy prepared meals with their EBT benefits.

The program provides the option for eligible SNAP recipients to use their SNAP EBT benefits or Michigan Bridges card to purchase prepared meals at approved participating restaurants.

Participating counties have a list of approved restaurants that participate in the RMP and eligible SNAP recipients can only use their EBT card at approved restaurants within their county.

Who is Eligible for the Restaurant Meals Program?

To be eligible for the Michigan SNAP Restaurant Meals Program, you must be part of the three demographics below:

Elderly: 60 years or old

Disabled: Have been determined disabled through the Social Security Administration, are a veteran with a service-based disability, or are receiving disability payments through the Railroad Retirement Act.

Homeless: Living in a supervised shelter, halfway house, or a place not designated for, or ordinarily used as sleeping accommodations for human beings.

Which Michigan Restaurants Participate in the Restaurant Meals Program?

As of October 2021, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has not yet released the names of restaurants participating in the program.
