How can I apply for Food Stamp benefits in Michigan?

There are three ways you can apply for food stamps in Missouri:

Option 1 – Online

You can apply online through the Michigan Bridges online account as shown above.

If you have an account, you can log in or create an account. Click here to be taken to the website.

Option 2 – In-person

You can apply in person at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) office near you. Click here to locate an MDHHS office.

Option 3 – Download Food Stamps Application

You can download an application, complete it, and mail it to your county MDHHS office or submit it in person.

Am I eligible for Michigan Food Stamps?

To be eligible for Food Stamp benefits in Michigan, you must meet certain eligibility requirements, including an asset and income limit (as described below).

How do I check the status of my Application? 

First, the MDHHS will send you a letter in the mail once your application has been approved or denied.

Second, depending on the programs you applied for, you may be required to have an interview with a caseworker.

Next, if your application is approved, you will begin to see information about your benefits in the View Benefits section of your Michigan Bridges account.

If your application is denied, you will receive a letter in the mail with an explanation of why your application was denied.

How do I fix a mistake on my Benefits Application? 

Unfortunately, once an application has been submitted online, it cannot be altered.

If a mistake was made on the application, please inform MDHHS or your caseworker of the mistake during your interview.

What is the Income Limit for Michigan Food Stamps?

In order to be approved for SNAP benefits in Michigan, you have to meet the income limits: gross income and net income.

Gross income is your total income, before taxes or any deductions.

Net income is determined by subtracting certain allowable deductions from the gross income.

Households with members who are elderly or disabled, as well as households that pass the gross income test, must also pass a net test to qualify.

Elderly households are those which contain members age 60 or older.

Disabled members are those who receive disability payments, such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), veteran’s disability, or Medicaid as a blind or disabled individual.

Can I save my Michigan Bridges application if I’m not complete?

Yes, you can save your food stamps application in your account by clicking the “Save” button. Be sure to save your application tracking number before exiting the online application.

You can return to the application by logging back into your account.

Can I renew my benefits on MI Bridges?

Yes, you can renew your benefits online, including food stamps renewal.

If you are eligible for a renewal, you will see a “Renew Benefits” button on your dashboard when you log in.

Can Michigan Food Stamps be used out of state?

Yes, you can use your Michigan food stamps in other states. There are no rules against using your EBT card outside of Florida.

The Michigan EBT Card will work at any store or ATM that accepts EBT cards in the United States, as well as the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam.

Can I use my Michigan food stamps online?

Yes, you can.

The United States Department of Agriculture, the federal agency that oversees the food stamps program started the Online Purchasing Pilot in January 2017 with select retailers for the initial launch of the EBT Online Purchasing Pilot.

In May 2020, Michigan was approved as part of the program.

When Will my Michigan Food Stamps Be Deposited?

In Michigan, Food Stamp Benefits are deposited into EBT Card accounts from the 3rd to the 21st of every month.

When your payment is deposited depends on the last digit of your ID Number. Here is the schedule:
